Each neighborhood in the University Area offers something unique to its residences and home owners. Belgravia was once the southern terminus of the Edmonton Radial Railway. Today Blegravia offers an off leash dog park and some amazing river valley views. Garneau offers walking distance proximity to both the University Campus and to all the night life on Whyte Ave and still being able to enjoy some of Edmontons pre-war architectural history.
McKernan offers the location of the "University Life Style" and yet the community it's self is tucked away with a low traffic pace in a quiet neighborhood. Windsor Park is the hidden gem in the University Area, located to the west of the University Campus nestled in between the Saskatchewan river and across from Willian Hawrelak, Emily Murphy and Kinsmen Parks and Golf courses.
Houses for sale in the University Area are the most expensive real estate in Edmonton, and well worth the value. Homes for sale in the U of A district can range from pre-war character homes to brand new architecturally custom designs. Garneau still by far has the most pre-war properties which are slowly being torn down and replaced with newer modern houses. With the exception of Strathcona high rises (and a few walk ups in Garneau), the University Area is primarily single family detached upscale properties. Rule of thumb, the closer you are to the University of Alberta, the more real estate prices will be.
