MacTaggart is located in southwest Edmonton and forms the southeastern boundary of the Terwillegar Servicing Concept Design Brief. MacTaggart is one of seven neighbourhoods planned for the Terwillegar Area. MacTaggart is bounded by MacTaggart and Rabbit Hill Road. MacTaggart is located to the southeast of Terwillegar Towne, which incorporates commercial amenities and services along 23 Avenue. The Leger transit centre and new southwest recreation centre are located along 23 Avenue.
The MacTaggart community Structure Plan was approved by City Council in 2005, and construction of the new homes began very shortly thereafter. MacTaggart's housing is mainly single detached houses with a few condominiums and attached homes. While parks, recreation, and commercial amenities have not yet been completed, the plan for MacTaggart is to construct a neighbourhood that incorporates a compact mixture of land uses and provides home owners with high-value access to natural outdoor amenity space.
MacTaggart takes its name from Sandy Auld Mactaggart, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist with provincial, national, and international achievements in business, arts, and education. Sandy Auld Mactaggart was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1928, and moved to Canada at the age of one.
