Oleskiw is one of the larger communities in the city, located south of Wolf Willow Ravine in west Edmonton. Quiet keyhole crescents and a curvilinear street pattern provide local residents with efficient traffic flow while minimizing traffic on inner residential roads. Houses account for almost 99 percent of the residential structures in Oleskiw. Most of the local roads have names starting with the letter W including Wahstao, Wallbridge, Walker, Whinston, Wold Ridge, Wheeler, Wilson and more. Wanyandi Road which rums through Oleskiw was in recognition of the Wanyandi family.

A prominent feature in Oleskiw is the West Edmonton Golf and Country Club. The private golf course forms a horseshoe shape along the southern region and several Oleskiw houses overlook the golf course and have excellent views of the fairways. Originally named Wolf Willow Farms, the neighbourhood was renamed in 1972 in honour of Dr. Oleskiw, an academic who was instrumental in bringing many of the original Ukrainian settlers to the Edmonton area.
